The Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi a Central University which was established in 1922. It is one of the largest and the oldest Chemistry Departments in the country with 77 faculty positions and nearly 250 research scholars in addition to about 800 M. Sc. students. In 1963, University Grants Commission recognized the Chemistry Department of University of Delhi as a Center of Advanced Study for the Chemistry of Natural Products and later, in 1965, the Department of Chemistry was recognized as a Center of Advanced Study in Chemistry. It has published over 9,000 research papers in journals of international repute and nearly 2,000 students have received Ph. D. degrees so far. It has been recognized as one of the best performing chemistry departments in the country by DST in the International Year of Chemistry (2011)
Indraprastha Vigyan Bharati is the Delhi prant unit of Vijnana Bharati. It is a science movement with a swadeshi spirit led by eminent Indian scientists of Bharata. It was started as the Swadeshi Science Movement under the guidance of Prof. K. I. Vasu at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru. In 1991 it was decided to launch the Swadeshi Science Movement at all India level with the name, Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).
Vijnana Bharati has units in all states across the country. It is working in 12 different areas through autonomous institutions, independent organisations & also as project entities.
